Real Ale Ride photos posted on Flickr

31 May 2009

I have been slowly getting back on the bike and the Real Ale Ride in Blanco was a great 65 mile test because of the hills. This ride featured a few 11-12% grades, lots more 8-10% grades and a 16% grade hill thrown in for good measure! Red Licorice Events did a marvelous job of [...]

New Website Upgrade & Relaunch – kgsbikes.com

29 May 2009

I have been a little quiet on the blog, Facebook and twitter lately as the KGS Bikes website upgrade is almost ready to be released. A database driven website is supposed to be easy to update, but we customized the old site so much that the new Content Management System can’t read it.

I subscribe to Seth Godin’s blog and one of his posts gave me the answer [...]

Sacred “Bike Fit” Cow – Toe down or heel down?

12 May 2009

I have been talking with folks for years about toe down vs heel down pedaling on the bike. It appears that this topic is as controversial as KOPS (Knee Over Pedal Spindle) and as such can take on “sacred cow” status.
I even read on a forum that “toe down pedaling should be avoided”, stating that [...]

How safe is bicycling, really?

6 May 2009

I was checking out my friends at the eco velo blog and found this great post about the relative safety of cycling.
Please read the whole article but here is the chart which I found most interesting:
Following is a list compiled by Failure Analysis Associates, Inc. (Design News, 10-4-93) comparing the fatal risk associated with participating [...]
