The concept of Pereto’s Principle is, that 80% of the effects comes from 20% of the causes, and thus is the foundation for the 80/20 rule. The way things work at KGS Bikes is more like 99/1. For example, look at the folks that actually come in the door to our studio. Greater than 99% of them get referred to other local bike shops, which is good for those consumers and good for the bike shops!
The title of this post is designed to get your attention, but in reality, it means, I don’t need to spend any more resources than sending you to a bike shop if you aren’t a match for us, but I do care about giving you a great experience and having your needs met. Thus, I will be nice, listen to your problem and then refer you to a shop who can actually do something about your problem. The reason for this is, the 1% of people who find they have a match get all of our attention. You and we have the same goals. You want the best in the world and we want to provide that to you. The payoff is, you will tell your friends and we will be friends for life.
The hardest thing in a niche business like ours is finding that 1% and not using up resources to try and win over the 99%. Once people who want what we can provide find us, the fun begins. Fortunately, the internet has made a venture like this possible, even located in San Antonio, which has lots of people but very few who know or care if we exist. From a marketing perspective, we can’t care about them, either.
I love talking to advertising sales people who promise scads of traffic when we advertise. Our friends with local bike shops love it too, because we can refer more people to them! Now that we are starting our sixth year as KGS Bikes, we now just look for folks we can overjoy with excellence. Are you one of them? About 40 people in the world per year could be.
